This Illinois State Board of Education block grant funded program supports families of infants and toddlers who may be at-risk of school failure. The Prevention Initiative Program provides services to 15 families from Divernon, Girard, Pawnee and Virden through the Virden Parent Place.

Parents are assisted in developing a plan for their family and supported in making dreams a reality. Existing services within the community are used to support the plan. Parents in this "Parents as Teachers" certified program, gain knowledge in parenting, child growth and development, health care and family dynamics through in-home instruction, parent /child activities and parenting classes.
